I did a post awhile back seeing what ppl used to pick which anime they watched and quite a few ppl use friend reviews and story summaries.
(For those who might have missed it click here to find it.)
So with that in mind have you ever read a review about an anime that got you all excited and couldn't wait to watch the show.
Then after watching it, realizing that you felt like you were let down.
Or a friend telling you that this show was awesome and that you'll love it.
So giving your friend the benefit of the doubt, watching the show and finding out that your friend has poor taste in anime.
I'm sure we all are victims in one way or another from these (unless you don't read or have friends )

For me the anime that I felt kinda let down on was Angel Beats.
I was really excited about it since it was made by the ppl who made Clannad/Clannad Afterstory and I felt that anime was awesome. So when I finally got to watch it, I felt like it wasn't as good as Clannad. Maybe it was the feeling that it was too short and rushed or I was expecting something like Clannad. When it wasn't anything close to it, I felt like I had been let down (though the art was just as good, I will give it that).

So what anime have you got hyped for and left feeling empty inside?

+1 on AngelBeats, I was really excited and thought it was going to be amazing as well. Seemed like it just ran around in a circle to me

For me the biggest let down of a series was Shikabane Hime (Corpse Princess), animated by Gainax, my favorite studio, I thought it was going to be at least good and keep me watching, but I found it too dark, color wise, too depressing and just boring, nothing especially excited happened. Even though it wasn't written by Gainax, I can't help but feel let down.

I suspect Haruhi S2 might get a few mentions... I enjoyed it though.

For me Toaru Majutsu no Index was a bit of a letdown. The first 6 episodes I enjoyed, but from then on I just got fed up with it. Shame, after a lot of people told me it was great and I should definitely watch it.

it was just plain boring from the start til the end. i thought that maybe after a few episodes it will get me interested but then no, i couldnt find the heart for that anime at all. i felt like i wasted a lot of time finishing the two seasons.

Bakemonogatari was slightly hyped for me. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I didn't reach the level of awesome I thought it would.
Not quite anime, but the video game Persona 4 (which is now an anime ) was highly recommended by a friend, but so far I've found it only mediorce at best.

durarara!! was some what of a let down for me. i remember reading alot of reviews about it and thought it was gonna be a great watch from start to finish. after i got about half way through i was pretty dissapointed in the plot, thought the headless rider was a good idea tho, and i enjoyed a few of the charactes like shizuo and izaya. the ending left me with alot of questions and i dont really see myself rewatching it anytime soon to look for those answers.

Maybe it's not the worst to have no friends... I really remember how angry I got about having wasted my time watching Clannad because two (2!!!) friends did tell me, that I'll like it. Since I value friendship higher than anime, though, I just stopped watching any new anime after that for two months, but I for sure won't ever give a damn shit on their recommendations in future. Obviously they don't know anything about my preferences and resentments.

I will never recommend anything for you to watch. I already know you watch stuff that is prolly exact opposite of what I enjoy.
So if I ever do recommend something, do the opposite.

For me, Clannad and After Story felt overhyped. I enjoyed the series, but I still believe it's taken too seriously by some of it's fanbase. The whole "another world" concept just seemed out of place and slightly far-fetched.

For me it was/is Guilty Crown. I was really looking forward to it, but damn its annoying. That "Shoe" seems to be cycling between badass-->pussy-->badass-->pussy.

I really want to give GC a chance and I REALLY want to enjoy it, but I dunno... I feel dissapointed every episode.

+1 for Durarara!!. Every editor and their dog on YouTube kept going on about how awesome the show was and that I should watch it.

It was boring.

I thought that Celty's story was alright, though... but it didn't end in a way I found satisfactory. The only redemption for the show in my opinion was Shizuo. He was pretty awesome.

I agree with you MissPaperPanda, Durarara could have been so much better.
Another anime that has gotten a lot of hype that I don't think it deserves is Lucky Star.
In my opinion it was an "ok" anime. Wasn't bad but nothing that doesn't set a bar for other animes to reach.

it just shows how different ppl hav different taste............I personally enjoyed both Angel Beats (something soviet felt 2 b a let down) & Clannad (something soviet liked very much but Hane didn't).............like many others here I don't hav many (read any) friends (who @ the very least r able 2 recommend something) nor do I ask 4 suggestions that much..............anyway there was this 1 time I was really bored & tried out Kore wa Zombie Desuka as a certain some1 suggested (more like I was reading his reviews)...........it had potential I can't deny that but they failed 2 execute it properly (it wasn't a total waste though I liked the op very much)..........on the the other hand while watching Gurren Lagann I had zero expectation & it turned out real good..........so suggestions can turn out both good & bad..........
