Can someone help me out with this please?
I tried downloading the MIRC and my anti-virus said it was bad, what part of that would be harmful to my computer? and is there another one that would be less risk?
also can someone please help explain the XDCC bots better to me please?

The actual mIRC program itself doesn't pose any risk or have anything bad attached to it. Your anti-virus is probably reacting to the potential risks of IRC (using anonymous scripts, downloading files from untrusted bots) or trojans/worms that have the same name or target and replace mIRC files. If you get the program from the mIRC website it is safe.
XDCC bots are written to send files through DCC (Direct client-to-client) which is what IRC uses to... send files. When you get into a channel you can identify most XDCC bots by typing !list. If they are programmed to respond to that they will privately message you with how many files they have and if they have anybody currently downloading from them.
To search for a specific file (naruto for example) you would type @find naruto or !find naruto and the bots would message you back all the files they have with the word "naruto" in it.
All the bots we have only recent releases on them, though.

♦GET the Combined Community Codec Pack, your first and last download to watch any video formats♦
♦Doing encodes/re-encodes: avi/mkv/mp4, x264/XviD, 8bit/10bit - Default is 704x400 XviD avi♦
♦Request re-encodes!♦
