Anime Line-Up Spring 2012
Posted 23 Jan 2012
Something to look forward in spring?

Apart from Phi Brain 2 not really, but I guess I'll give Accel World, Zetman and Sankarea a try. -
Anime New Year!
Posted 27 Dec 2011
Struggled first, if I should just expand the x-mas-thread, but in the end it's another theme, so here is your New-Year-Pics-and-Wishes-List! Rules are the same as there: one pic per post, no doublepost, ends at january, 1st.

Yoi otoshi o! Wishing you'll continue your splendid work on Animesenshi! How about a new forum-theme for 2012? -
[Guide] How to change fps when video is offsync
Posted 23 Nov 2011
Hi. Since most of async problems can easily be solved without reencoding here's a little guide:
First of all get mkvtoolnix, if you don't already have it. You can grab it here.
1. Open mkvmerge Gui and load your original file either by clicking on "Add" or drag and dropping them into the white field on the top.

2. In the appearing tracklist click on the video-stream (usually the one with "V_" at the beginning or search for "type: video").
3. Click on the tab "Format Specific Options".
4. Choose the right fps (normally 23.976).

5. Maybe type in another filename to keep your original file.
6. Remux it.
(Take care that you didn't remove the hook on your video-stream, when you clicked on it on step 2). Remuxing means no reencode, thus the quality is untouched. You're only changing the speed of images, so remuxing shouldn't take longer than a minute or two.
7. Finished. Have fun with your new synched file. -
Completed Series - Request
Posted 21 Oct 2011
Hi.
Another request from me. How about gathering everything that is related to one series to one single thread in the completed series section (I don't mean the user-reencodes)? Eg. Black Lagoon now is listed as Black Lagoon, Black Lagoon Second Barrage and Black Lagoon - Roberta's Bloodtrail. I admit even if the episodes are numbered continuously, it isn't such a problem to have them seperated like eg. the Natsume or Zetsubou Sensei series, where you have different first characters:
Natsume Yuujinchou - Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou - Natsume Yuujinchou San - (Natsume Yuujinchou Shi in 2012) or
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
So they don't get listed one after another on the completed series list. Normally if you like one season you most likely want to download the rest, too. So instead of going to MAL or aniDB to not only get to know how much other seasons (OVAs/Movies) there are related to one series but to get their correct names, too, and reget here to download them, it would be more comfortable to us to have them listed just all in one thread (but you can use different posts if you want). You could name them on the completed series list like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (1-3) to make more clear, that there is more than one season to find under that link.
Naturally only things that are really connected to each other should be gathered. Eg. Blood-C has not really something to Blood+ (except the name of the protagonist), so I wouldn't join them together.
Hm, I guess I got somewhat confusing a bit, but I hope you get the idea. Anyways it would be much appreciated. -
The magic of 10bit-encodes (or Hi10)
Posted 9 Oct 2011
Hi. Starting this animeseason there are quite many groups releasing in 10bit rather than 8bit. Since some of you seem not to have heard about it, yet, I thought I write a bit for your understanding.
So what stands 10bit for?
Usually you have three color channels (red, yellow, blue), where your video is stored with 8 bits depth per color. So you can have a total of 256 (2^8) different shades of each primary color or a total of 16.8 million shades. Using 10bit-depth you get 1024 (2^10) each or over a billion in total that can be displayed if (and that's the point here) your hardware is able to display 10bit-encoded videos. There are some modern LCD and Plasma TVs that are capable of displaying 10-bit depth content, also players with “xvYCC” or “xv.Color” on the box can handle it so far, but it is no secret that the industry is hesitating to implement it so far, so best solution so far for watching the new 10bit-anime-content is your pc. (That said, just don't watch videos per PS3. This is a game console, no matter what they label it for sales reason. If you don't want to watch on PC then go buy a good 3D-Player and that is not a PS3!).
Now what's the point in using 10 bit, if even many grafic devices on pc are only up to 24 bits per pixel?
Actually there are quite many LCD displays that can only show up to a bit depth of 6 bits per channel. These ones use something called "dithering" to simulate a depth of 8 bits per color by quickly changing to nearest colors in a dynamic pattern, so you get the impression of a higher color accuracy (for more info take a look at Dither: Digital photography and image processing). Following that it would be actually possible to use this technique to get the illusion of 10bit-color-depth, but there is the big disadvantage of a very high bitrate (and thus higher filesize) to keep the dithering intact.
So the advantages of 10bit-encodes lie in more efficiency:
- The bit-depth increase provides greater accuracy for the miscellaneous prediction processes involved in the AVC/H.264 compression scheme, including motion compensation, intra prediction and in-loop filtering.
- Extensive experimentation demonstrates that the coding efficiency gains are highest with videos that contain shallow textures and low noise.
- Since gains are provided through increased accuracy of internal computations, improvements can also be observed on 8-bit video sources. Interestingly, the reduction of artifacts provided by 10-bit processing does not require a 10-bit display. It’s perceivable even on standard LCD panels (8-bit or dithered 6-bit).
(see some flashy charts of x264)
In short terms: a 10bit-video less than 20-30% of the filesize of an 8bit-encode will still look better than the 8bit-encode of the same video.
So what will change in regard of your fansubs?
You'll get either
- remarkable smaller filesize at same or slightly better videoquality or
- little smaller filesize at better quality or
- same filesize but extremly better quality and
- no reencodes of 10bit-releases to 8bit or even avi, since the appropriate routines of scalers lack for the moment. Bear with it.
Wanna see the difference? (Please remark the 10bit-encode has a filesize of 100MB wheras the 8bit-encode of Coalgirls has a filesize of 2000!) - The bit-depth increase provides greater accuracy for the miscellaneous prediction processes involved in the AVC/H.264 compression scheme, including motion compensation, intra prediction and in-loop filtering.
